The Joker is set to join MultiVersus as part of the game’s relaunch later this month, with actor Mark Hamill reprising his iconic role as the Clown Prince of Crime. Developer Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games unveiled Joker in a fresh gameplay trailer, which also featured an exciting tease of another addition: The Powerpuff Girls.
Although the gameplay trailer released on Monday offers only a fleeting glimpse of Buttercup, Blossom, and Bubbles, their presence is clearly hinted at in its opening seconds. It is anticipated that they will fight collectively, similar to MultiVersus’ innovative approach with Tom and Jerry. However, full details about their gameplay mechanics will be revealed later.
In MultiVersus, the Joker is classified as a Mage-type character, excelling in ranged combat with a focus on weapons and gadgets to inflict damage. Specifically, the Joker will be equipped with a pogo stick, spring-loaded boxing gloves, a rocket launcher, balloons, and cartoon-style cannons. The initial gameplay trailer also showcases several alternate skins, including Dark Prince Charming and the Batman Who Laughs.
Mark Hamill’s return to voice the Joker reunites him with his Batman: The Animated Series co-star Kevin Conroy, who voices Batman in MultiVersus. Hamill has consistently lent his voice to the Joker in recent animated films and video games, including Batman: The Killing Joke and Lego DC Super-Villains. However, he did not voice the younger, alternate-universe Joker in the recent update for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
MultiVersus is scheduled to relaunch on May 28, following a nearly year-long offline period during which Player First Games reworked the Smash Bros.-inspired brawler and developed new content.
The Joker’s inclusion will expand a roster that currently features DC characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and Black Adam; Scooby-Doo’s Shaggy and Velma; Looney Tunes’ Bugs Bunny, Tasmanian Devil, and Marvin the Martian; Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark; Tom and Jerry; Adventure Time’s Finn the Human and Jake the Dog; Steven Universe and Garnet; Iron Giant; LeBron James from Space Jam: A New Legacy; Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith; Gremlins’ Gizmo and Stripe; and the original MultiVersus character, Reindog.
