Google I/O 2024 ran for 110 minutes and featured a staggering 121 references to AI, according to CEO Sundar Pichai. Pichai noted this impressive tally as he concluded the presentation, humorously indicating that Google had done the “hard work” of counting for the audience.
While it was expected that AI would be a significant theme, the sheer number of mentions is still remarkable for a presentation of this length. The spotlight was primarily on Gemini and its various versions, which Google is integrating into virtually all of its products, including Android, Search, and Gmail.
The event followed a high bar set by OpenAI, which had made a major GPT announcement at the same venue just a day earlier. Additionally, Apple is anticipated to reveal a partnership to integrate OpenAI’s technology into its offerings at its own upcoming developer conference, WWDC.
For those interested, the frequency of AI mentions during the keynote can be reviewed personally.
