Bluesky has unveiled an ambitious product roadmap for the upcoming months. The decentralized social network announced on Tuesday its plans to roll out direct messaging capabilities, enhanced video support, improved custom feed functionality, and advanced moderation tools.
In a recent blog post, Bluesky outlined the development of a direct messaging service that will initially operate off the decentralized AT Protocol—the backbone of the Bluesky platform—before transitioning to an on-protocol solution. This preliminary version aims to support one-on-one conversations and will include user controls to restrict who can send direct messages.
The company is also focusing on refining its custom feed features, which enable users to tailor their own feeds. Currently, third-party tools can enhance these customizations, but Bluesky is now developing features such as in-app feed creation, improved feed discovery, a new trending feeds view, the ability to submit and curate posts, and manual moderation capabilities. Additionally, users will be able to better arrange their feeds on the home screen.
Bluesky also mentioned its ongoing efforts to develop anti-harassment tools, though specific functionalities were not detailed.
Furthermore, the platform aims to expand video support and introduce an OAuth-based login mechanism. This will enable users to “log in with Bluesky” for various services associated with the social network. Presently, users are required to use a separate password for third-party apps.
These enhancements demonstrate Bluesky’s commitment to providing a more robust and user-friendly decentralized social network experience.
