Amazon is set to enhance the Fire TV experience with a new AI-driven search feature that empowers Alexa to respond to open-ended inquiries about TV shows and movies, while also offering personalized recommendations based on individual user preferences.
Unveiled at Amazon’s annual devices event last September, this feature leverages a proprietary large language model (LLM). This advanced AI comprehends natural language and phrases, enabling it to handle queries such as, “What movie has the line ‘Life is like a box of chocolates?’” (The answer is “Forrest Gump,” in case you were wondering). Additionally, it can provide options based on actors, characters, genres, and topics.
Moreover, Alexa will have the capability to recommend titles from the streaming services you’re already subscribed to. For example, if you ask Alexa to find psychological thrillers with surprise endings, it will only display content that is accessible to you.
This innovative feature is expected to roll out in the coming weeks to U.S. customers who have Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6 or later.
The introduction of this search functionality represents Amazon’s latest initiative to integrate generative AI-powered features into Fire TV. Previously, the company launched an AI-powered image generator for creating TV backgrounds as well as introduced three Alexa experiences designed for playing games and generating songs.
