Key Upgrades
One of the most significant changes is the switch to a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC (system on a chipset) instead of MediaTek hardware. According to benchmark tests, while this new chip might not drastically outperform the 2023 model, it offers similar performance levels. This adjustment allows Motorola to price the Edge (2024) more competitively at $550, a $50 reduction compared to the previous model still retailing at $600.
Performance Enhancements
For users seeking extra power, the Edge (2024) incorporates RAM Boost, converting unused storage from its 256GB capacity into virtual RAM. The phone comes with 8GB of memory, adequate for everyday activities. The RAM Boost feature enhances performance during more demanding tasks like streaming or gaming.
Additionally, the device includes a larger 5,000mAh battery, providing up to 36 hours of usage on a single charge. It supports 68W TurboPower fast charging, enabling it to reach 50% battery life with just 15 minutes of charging.
Design and Camera Improvements
The Edge (2024) maintains a design similar to its predecessor with one notable addition: the Quick Button. This customizable button can be linked to specific apps or functions, allowing quick access to tools like Google Maps, Gmail, or messaging apps. This new feature slightly increases the device’s dimensions to 159.63 x 71.99 x 8.09 mm (6.28 x 2.83 x 0.3 inches).
A standout feature of the Edge (2024) is its 50 MP rear camera, which utilizes a Sony LYTIA 700C image sensor. Motorola claims this sensor enhances light absorption, producing stunningly detailed images. The camera system also includes OIS (optical image stabilization) and Adaptive Stabilization to reduce involuntary hand movements, ensuring crystal-clear photographs. Supporting the main camera is a 13MP ultra wide-angle lens and a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies.
Consistent Features
Many popular features from the previous model return in the Edge (2024). It boasts a 6.6-inch pOLED Endless Edge Display, curving around the device’s body with a Full HD Plus (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The device also includes stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos for enhanced audio quality.
