Key improvements will focus on the Apple Mail app, particularly through an AI initiative reportedly dubbed Project Blackpearl within Apple. According to sources speaking to AppleInsider, the Mail app will receive significant enhancements.
One major upgrade is smarter searching within Mail. When you perform a search, you’ll be presented with comprehensive results that may include contact information, relevant locations, and locally stored documents.
In addition, a new ‘smart reply’ feature is rumored to be in the works. Similar to the auto-response functionality in Gmail, this feature will allow for quick, one-click replies to emails, potentially streamlining your daily email management.
On the generative AI front, expect a ChatGPT-like text feature. This could enable Siri to rephrase email texts to be more professional or casual based on your needs, as well as offer suggestions to improve your email drafts.
AI-enhanced email categorization will also be introduced, boosting organization by prioritizing emails based on content and sender. This categorization could include sorting messages into categories such as promotions, social, and transactions – similar to functionalities found in Gmail.
Moreover, Siri is slated to gain advanced summarization capabilities, providing concise summaries of emails, email threads, messages, notifications, notes, web articles, and more. These summaries could range from brief overviews to detailed paragraphs.
AppleInsider also highlights other potential upgrades for Siri, including interfacing with various apps and new photo editing features. All these updates will be confirmed on Monday, and we will be covering the WWDC 2024 event live from 10 am PT/1 pm ET/6 pm BST on June 10 (1 am ACT the following day in Australia).
