Apple introduced the latest iteration of its operating system, macOS Sequoia, at WWDC 2024 in Cupertino, bringing a suite of notable enhancements.
A standout feature is iPhone mirroring, now integrated into macOS through the Continuity feature. This allows users to mirror and control their iPhone screens directly from their Mac laptops or desktops. Alerts on Mac will trigger iPhone mirror mode, while iPhone audio will seamlessly play through the Mac, keeping the paired iPhone locked for security.
macOS Sequoia also enhances productivity with automatic window tiling and a presenter preview mode for videoconferencing, which includes a built-in background replacement. Additionally, Keychain receives significant updates, such as a new cross-platform Passwords app for streamlined credential management.
Safari has been upgraded with several intelligent features. Highlights use AI to identify and display interesting content with a simple click. The Reader mode now offers AI-powered summaries and tables of contents for web pages. Moreover, the new Viewer option prioritizes video content, complete with system-level video controls.
For gamers, Apple has rolled out Game Porting Toolkit 2, which boasts improved compatibility with Windows and enhanced debugging tools, making it easier than ever to bring your favorite games to Mac.
The macOS Sequoia beta will be released this month, with the final version expected this fall.
In addition to these macOS advancements, Apple also announced updates to the Photos app in iOS 18 and an enhanced Calculator app for the iPad.
