Announcing a new Calculator app can only mean one thing at a developer conference: excitement. This was certainly the case at WWDC 2024, where the crowd erupted in applause for the latest addition. With an hour left for more announcements, this app has already taken center stage.
The iOS staple for tips and calculations is finally coming to the iPad, leveraging the larger screen to introduce features that were previously impossible on the iPhone. Among these new functionalities is Math Notes, a standout feature that performs complex calculations for you.
This addition makes the iPad an incredibly compelling choice for educational purposes, although it’s certain that some educators might be concerned about an app that handles all the heavy lifting for students.
Using the Apple Pencil, users can draw formulas directly on the screen. The integrated AI then takes over, solving the problem with precision. Apple also mentioned that this feature will extend to macOS Sequoia, with both it and iPadOS 15 set to release later this year.
In addition to the Calculator app, Apple also unveiled VisionOS 2 for the Vision Pro and enhancements to the Photos app.
