On Wednesday, Google announced its latest initiative aimed at empowering the public sector through advanced AI technology. The freshly launched “Google for Startups AI Academy: American Infrastructure” is designed to equip startups with the knowledge and tools to tackle challenges in various domains such as agriculture, energy, education, public safety, healthcare, telecommunications, transportation, and urban development, among others.
Over a twelve-week period, selected startups will engage in a comprehensive, equity-free program that offers hands-on training led by AI specialists and industry veterans. Participants will benefit from a robust AI curriculum developed by Google’s People + AI Research (PAIR) team, in addition to advanced sales and go-to-market workshops. The program will also provide valuable industry connections and access to Google’s suite of AI tools.
Startups that successfully complete the program will join an esteemed alumni network, featuring notable companies like JustAir, which employs AI to monitor air quality; Cambio, dedicated to decarbonizing commercial real estate; and Sensagrate, focused on reducing traffic-related fatalities.
Google intends to select startups that leverage AI to enhance productivity and address problems across a wide array of sectors, including but not limited to disaster prevention, environmental sustainability, smart manufacturing, logistics, water management, workforce development, and economic opportunity.
Applications for this transformative program are due by June 17.
While the spotlight often shines on companies developing AI models, tools, and interfaces, Google emphasizes the importance of practical applications of AI technology. The company believes that integrating AI into real-world infrastructures can significantly impact communities at local, state, and national levels. Startups working towards creating more efficient and equitable public services are encouraged to apply, irrespective of their direct focus on the aforementioned industries.
