Microsoft’s Copilot, a sophisticated AI-driven generative tool capable of producing text and responding to detailed queries, has been integrated as an in-app chatbot on the popular messaging platform Telegram. Now in its beta phase, Copilot for Telegram offers an interface where users can interact with the AI in a conversational manner, mimicking a one-on-one dialogue with a friend.
The chatbot can handle a wide array of inquiries, ranging from general knowledge questions like “What movie should I watch?” to more specific prompts such as “What baseball game is on right now?” Users can access the bot by searching for its handle, @CopilotOfficialBot. The service is free for Telegram users and is available on both mobile and desktop platforms, although it does require the provision of a phone number.
Microsoft has integrated Copilot into several of its own products, including Microsoft 365 and Teams, and has also developed AI-centric hardware, such as Copilot+ PCs. This extension to third-party platforms like Telegram marks a significant move, indicating Microsoft’s interest in embedding its AI tools within diverse social applications.
The trend of incorporating AI chatbots into messaging platforms is not limited to Microsoft. Meta is currently testing its own Meta AI across Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Google’s Gemini competes with Copilot by enabling generative AI functionality within Google Messages on Android devices. Similarly, Snapchat employs ChatGPT to enhance its AI chatbot, which can also respond to Snaps.
