During the Google I/O 2024 developer keynote on Tuesday, the company revealed that mobile app developers, including well-known names like Patreon and Grammarly, are already leveraging Gemini Nano, Google’s smallest AI model. These companies were among the select group of developers invited to participate in an early access program announced last year, allowing them to integrate with Gemini Nano ahead of a broader rollout. Google plans to extend access to this AI model to more developers in the upcoming months.
Highlighting practical implementations, Google shared that Patreon is developing a feature to help creators quickly catch up on unread messages. This functionality is similar to how Google is incorporating Gemini Nano into Gmail to streamline email summarization.
Grammarly, another early adopter, has been exploring the capabilities of Gemini Nano to enhance its smart suggestions technology, aiming to provide users with more refined writing assistance.
While Google did not delve into specific integration details, it showcased these examples to demonstrate the potential applications of Gemini Nano in various apps and services.
In addition, Google announced several updates for Gemini, emphasizing its integration into Google’s own suite of apps, such as Messages, YouTube, and Gmail, across both web and mobile platforms. The updates also included new functionalities for Android smartphones, such as scam call warnings, among other enhancements.
