Minecraft is marking its 15th anniversary, though its pervasive presence makes it seem as if it has been part of the gaming landscape for much longer. This timeless appeal is a testament to its enduring popularity, driven by its versatile sandbox-style gameplay that offers boundless creative possibilities. Currently accessible on computers, consoles, and mobile phones, Microsoft has now extended its availability to a new platform: Google search.
In honor of Minecraft’s 15th anniversary, Google has introduced a playful Easter egg within its search engine. Simply search for “Minecraft” on Google, and you will notice a small grass block at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on this block transforms it into a pickaxe. By continuously clicking, you can interact with various Minecraft-themed elements scattered across the screen. Though the functionality is quite basic, limited to breaking through wood, dirt, snow, stone, and even clouds, the experience offers a nostalgic nod to the iconic game.
Since discovering this feature, I’ve found myself enthusiastically breaking through these virtual blocks. While there doesn’t appear to be any additional objectives or interactions, the activity itself has been surprisingly entertaining. I’ll keep engaging with this feature, pondering how Jack Black will bring the character Steve to life in the upcoming Minecraft movie.
